Sand Creek, MI Home Built in 1880 Gets Waterproofed
Challenge
A house built in 1880 was purchased by the current owner 60 years ago. Unfortunately, water had begun coming through the concrete block walls and dripping down the stairs. The homeowner wanted to prevent losing everything in the basement to dampness. However, they also did not want to invest a fortune into the repairs due to rarely using the space. They called HomeSpec Waterproofing and Foundation Repair to learn about possible solutions.
Solution
Yann, a HomeSpec project manager, inspected the areas of concern as well as the rest of the home to determine the best options for this homeowner. For the staircase, he suggested installing a CleanSpace® vapor barrier along the walls and a TrenchDrain™ Grated Draining Pipe at the base. The TrenchDrain™ could then be connected to a WaterGuard® interior drainage system as well as a sump pump and sump discharge. While some homeowners would add these waterproofing products around the entire basement perimeter, this plan fit this homeowner’s wishes to only extend the system around the sections of their highest concern. The products were installed by foremen Jon and Vernon as well as their teams. The homeowner was happy with the completed project and knowing their basement was protected.
