Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Southfield, MI Home Installs Underground Downspout Extensions
A Southfield, MI had been bought by a couple. The homeowners had spoken with an inspector who told them they needed to divert water away from the home and suggested doing so by using downspout extensions. They had already anticipated re-doing their roof and then planned to repair their gutters after the roof.
After looking into some companies, they discovered HomeSpec Waterproofing & Foundation Repair. They scheduled an inspection with HomeSpec’s David K. so the company could understand the full scope of what the home needs to thrive. He determined that HomeSpec could replace the gutters and install the downspout extensions; however, he recommended underground downspouts to get the water further than the current extensions. The homeowners approved these repairs, as well as other services, and scheduled to have a crew come out for the installation.
The team was led by foreman Rick G. during this project. They worked hard to get all 11 of the 15-foot underground downspout extensions installed promptly around the perimeter of the house. The original downspout extensions still poured water too close to the house, allowing the water to sink into the backfill soil and threaten the foundation. The underground extensions have pipes that run beneath the soil and discharge above ground a distance away from the house so the water is passed the backfill, a spot where the soil is more compact. The homeowners were pleased with the end results and had peace of mind that they had addressed the threats to their foundation early.
Southfield, MI Original Gutters and Downspout Does Not Get Water Away From Foundation
This image shows the original setup that the homeowners encountered when buying the home. The inspector told them that the water was not getting far enough away from their home and was a threat to the foundation. They were told that they need downspout extensions, such as what can be provided by HomeSpec Waterproofing & Foundation Repair.
Underground Downspout Extension Connects to Downspout
The old extension has been removed and replaced with pipes that extend much further. The pipes will be buried underground to avoid tripping hazards and eye sores. There is an outlet at the furthest end that drains the water away from the backfill.
Underground Downspout Extensions Installed at Southfield, MI Home
The pipes for the underground downspout extensions will be buried aside from the outlet at the very end. This allows water to flow away from the home, more specifically away from the backfill and the foundation. This method highly reduces the amount of water that would otherwise be putting pressure on the foundation walls.
