Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: New Interior Drainage System Means No More Soaked Carpets for Ottawa Lake, MI Basement
A homeowner in Ottawa Lake, MI moved in two years ago and has witnessed the water damage get progressively worse. It did not seem to be coming from the walls or the sump pump but instead from the floors. The carpet would become soaked and the water threatened their belongings. With disdain for wet socks and mold in mind, the homeowner called HomeSpec Waterproofing and Foundation Repair for permanent solutions.
Erik, a senior project manager, inspected the basement and talked with the homeowner about their experience. He shared that the best remedy would be to install a WaterGuard® interior drainage system, known as IDS, and a new discharge for the sump pump that would extend to the nearby ditch. These ideas sounded great to the homeowner and allowed HomeSpec to move forward. Two crews were sent to work on this home. One of the crews, led by HomeSpec’s plumber, Rick, handled the plumbing concerns like the hot water tank to prepare for the other crew that installed the IDS and sump discharge. The homeowner was happy with the completed work and happy to know their basement floor would stay dry.
Soaked Carpet in Ottawa Lake, MI Basement
This homeowner did not want their belongings ruined by water damage, mold to grow, or wet socks. Something had to change, so they called HomeSpec.
Wet Carpet Removed for Interior Drainage System Installation
HomeSpec's crews needed access to the concrete block foundation under the carpet to install the IDS.
Channels Dug Along Basement Walls for Drains
Skinny trenches were dug along the entire perimeter of the basement so water could be properly discharged from anywhere in the basement. The drains fit perfectly beneath floor level and are then covered with rocks and plastic to protect the drains from the concrete that seals the system in place.
Concrete Completes IDS Installation
New concrete is mixed and placed on top of the protective plastic. It is then leveled to be flush with the rest of the foundation. The basement can be re-finished once the concrete has been set.
