Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Westland, MI Basement Waterproofed, Belongings Protected
A Westland, MI house was built in 2003 and someone moved in shortly after. That homeowner has lived there for the past 20 years and has used the basement for storage. Unfortunately, the cracks in the basement walls have begun to leak. During one of the more recent rain events, a lot of water got into the basement and the homeowner was concerned about the items stored there getting damaged. They decided it was time to have the basement waterproofed and reached out to HomeSpec Waterproofing and Foundation Repair for a free inspection.
Erik, one of the senior project managers for HomeSpec, visited the house and took a look at all of the damaged areas. He also inspected the outside of the house to judge if there were other environmental factors contributing to the water intrusion. Erik proposed installing a French drain system known as WaterGuard® to capture the water and CleanSpace® vapor barrier to protect the basement walls. The homeowner agreed to this plan. Jon and Rick led the team in completing this project and making sure the basement would stay dry.
CleanSpace® Vapor Barrier Installed in Westland, MI Basement
The CleanSpace® vapor barrier was installed first so it would be secure once the rest of the interior drainage system was complete. The first step was to dig trenches along the footing for the French drains to fit properly.
Rocks Protect French Drains From Debris
A layer of rocks not only fills the remaining space not used by the WaterGuard® interior drainage system but also protects the system from debris. A layer of plastic would then be applied to prepare for the final step.
Concrete Completes IDS
After a layer of plastic, a layer of concrete was placed on top and smoothed until it was flat with the rest of the basement floor.
