Leaking Basement Caused by Uneven Concrete in Flint, MI
Challenge
Water was seeping into this Flint home after heavy rainfall, but only at one wall through a few cracks. The homeowner stored belongings in his basement, and some of the boxes were getting damaged by the water. He was concerned and didn't know what to do, so he contacted HomeSpec.
Solution
It was thought that this would be a simple crack repair job to stop the leaking. But upon inspection, the project manager discovered that the problem was stemming from a concrete patio slab that was just outside the leaking wall. The concrete was uneven and sloped toward the home, so water was being directed right down to basement wall. The project manager concluded that the patio needed to be PolyLeveled, and the wall needed to be repaired.
Our PolyLevel specialists injected the foam under the slab to lift it and slightly slope it away from the home. Then the gap between the home and the patio was filled with our NexusPro joint sealant. The wall was waterproofed by sealing the cracks so there was no entryway for the water. The homeowner reported months later that no more water had leaked into the basement since!
