Flooding Oak Park, MI Crawlspace Professionally Waterproofed
Challenge
This new homeowner in Oak Park, MI purchased their home knowing that water was invading the crawlspace from a previous inspection. They wanted a second estimate to ensure the crawlspace would be encapsulated properly. The family in the home, including the dogs, were struggling with allergies and headaches. These were factors that encouraged the homeowner to take action and call HomeSpec Waterproofing and Foundation Repair for a free consultation.
Solution
To address the water getting into the crawlspace, HomeSpec recommended more than just encapsulation with CleanSpace®. The inspector proposed installing a SmartPipe™ perimeter drainage pipe, a new sump discharge, a new discharge to the existing basin, and a cover to seal the sump pump. Installing these products would capture any water and route it out of the crawlspace as well as protect the home from mold and other allergens. The homeowner approved of all of the suggestions and a crew was scheduled to come out to the house.
There were some obstacles for HomeSpec when it came time for the installation. The homeowner was more than understanding and worked with HomeSpec to get the desired repairs completed. The crew had to avoid concrete slab when burying the discharge line but were able to move the patio pavers. Additionally, HomeSpec was able to reach a creative solution to make a sealed lid out of plexiglass for the existing sump pump. The customer was happy to fix their house early in the process of making it a home the whole family could be comfortable in.
