Foundation Repair Photo Album: SmartJack® System Stabilizes Foundation at Harbor Beach, MI Home

A Harbor Beach, MI homeowner discovered their foundation needed repairs when the front of the house had begun to experience settlement. They reached out to HomeSpec Waterproofing & Foundation Repair for guidance. HomeSpec’s inspector, Erik, evaluated the severity of the situation as well as made other observations of the home.    He proposed a SmartJack® system to permanently fix the sinking structural issues. Other issues their house was struggling with include the crawl space, the basement walls, and the basement floor. Erik also recommended encapsulating the crawl space, waterproofing the basement, getting a dehumidifier, and getting an air purifier. The homeowner accepted and a HomeSpec team was scheduled to get started on the work.   Led by Jim, a foreman, the team was able to work on all of the projects simultaneously. For the SmartJack® system, they cut square holes into the basement floor and partially filled it with concrete to create a footing, a stable base. They then position the steel column under the home's support beam to stabilize it and fill the rest of the hole with more concrete to meet the floor evenly. As part of the basement waterproofing, HomeSpec used ThermalDry® Elite Plank Flooring which covered part of the concrete square sealing the work inconspicuously into the basement’s aesthetic.
