Damp Smell Lingers From Wet Basement in Canton, MI
This Canton, Michigan homeowner contacted HomeSpec because an inch of water recently flooded into his basement. He normally experienced small water seepages in the spring and summertime after storms, but this was the first flood. Because of the moist basement, the homeowner also complained about a damp smell that comes from downstairs every year.  To solve this problem, HomeSpec installed a full waterproofing system. This includes an Interior Drainage System, Sump Pump, Vapor Barrier and Dehumidifier. These work together to capture water and funnel it away from the home before it floods or leaks. The dehumidifier maintains a healthy relative humidity and constantly conditions the air.  The homeowner was so happy to finally have a healthy basement. He mentioned that he noticed an immediate difference in the humidity and smell of the home after the installation was complete. After the recent heavy rains, the system kept the basement completely dry!
Basement Waterproofing and Sump Pump Upgrade Helps Alleviate Family's Wet Basement Problems, Canton Mi
A family in Canton, Michigan had experienced issues over the years with a few different sump pumps. The pumps would burn out, stop working, or wouldn’t be functional in a power outage leading to their basement flooding with water. The family reported that at least once a year they would have to use a shop vac and a series of fans to dry their basement for over a week. Increasingly frustrated, and confused by this regular problem, the family reached out for expert help from HomeSpec.    HomeSpec’s Bobby Whitus sat down with the family to hear their retelling of events before conducting a thorough investigation of his own. It seemed that the first sump pump used was simply aged out and became faulty over time; another one had fried during a power outage, and a third failed to activate during a power outage letting the water level of the drainage well overflow. A series of unfortunate events had plagued this family and exhausted them.Bobby presented an ideal solution for the family when he recommended the TripleSafe Sump Pump System. As the name suggests, this system uses 3 pumps, a powerful primary 1/3 hp pump to handle traditional needs, a secondary 1/2 pump to help offset extreme cases of rising water levels as well as to serve as a backup should the first fail, and the third pump as a battery powered backup system in case of a power outage or other emergency that could hinder the first two while being capable of discharging up to 11,500 gallons of water on a single charge. A proven and long-lasting solution for basement water problems.   Even the most efficiently waterproofed basements can still feel damp at times, so a final touch for the sake of comfortability and assurance was needed. That last touch being a proper dehumidifier. Using the SaniDry Sedona basement dehumidifier, a size efficient solution (so much so that it can also be used as a crawlspace dehumidifier if the situation called) that costs less than other basement dehumidifiers and being capable of automatic drainage and humidity sensing, allows for a low maintenance, long lasting way to make the once incredibly damaged basement, comfortable again. The family finally felt confident that they had a series of solutions in place with TripleSafe. Whether the problem be large storms, power outages, or otherwise, they could finally breathe easier with a comfortable, waterproofed basement.
Homeowner in Canton, MI wants to Renovate basement but cant because Basement is Leaking Water, has WaterGuard Installed to solve their Issue
A homeowner in Canton, MI was renovating their house for their daughter because she had plans to move back in. However, they had been struggling with a persistent issue in the basement for some time and it was beginning to affect their renovations. Every time it rained, water would seep through the cracks in the walls and floor, making the air damp and musty. This not only created an unpleasant environment but also caused health issues for the family, including allergies and respiratory problems. At first, they tried various DIY solutions to seal off the cracks but none of them seemed to work effectively. The musty odors still lingered and the air felt damp. After a few months of dealing with this issue, they realized professional help was needed to address the issue once and for all. After doing some research, they came across our website and decided to give us a call.  When one of our Project Managers arrived at the home, they could immediately smell the odor coming from the basement. Upon further inspection he determined it was a drainage issue that was causing the water to pool and fester. After consulting with the homeowner,  he recommended that they install the WaterGuard Drainage System in their basement to help keep the water flowing. The WaterGuard system is a French drain system that collects water from the walls and floor and directs it to a sump pump, which then pumps it out of the house. After explaining the benefits of the drainage system, this homeowner decided to proceed with the project. On the scheduled day, our crew arrived and began the process by digging out a trench around the perimeter of the basement in order to place the french drain system on the foundation footing. This placement allows the drain to sit above the “mud zone”, an area where traditional drains tend to clog. After the WaterGuard is installed, and the gravel is placed on top to help the water flow easier, it is connected to the sump pump system where it allows the water to be drained away from the home.  Once our crew had cleared up the debris from the work area and left, the homeowner immediately noticed a change in the air quality. It no longer had a powerful odor and they could feel the difference. With their peace of mind restored, they could finally finish the renovations knowing their basement was protected.

Rod Holes Fixed Saving Property Value In Canton, Mi
A Canton homeowner wanted to maximize the resale value of their home and wanted to ensure everything was in top shape. As they worked through the home, they noticed peculiar stained circular holes in the basement walls. Concerned, and not sure how to approach the problem, the homeowner reached out to HomeSpec to investigate and provide a solution. Our crew heard out the homeowner’s concerns and explained that these were rod holes. When the foundation of the basement was originally poured during construction of a home, rods were used to hold the forms together until the concrete had cured. At which point the rods are removed, leaving holes to be filled with balls of hydraulic cement. The problem is that these fillings often still have cavities that water will find its way through and wear away at causing leaks, as well as being known to fail over time, often resulting in discolored stains along the walls as a result. Most, companies would want to put a simple band-aid on the problem with the fulcrum method, but that’s a temporary fix that may fail over time similar to how the hydraulic cement did.HomeSpec wants to make sure we provide long-lasting, reliable solutions. Our crew began by using a water swelling hydrophobic polyurethane grout made from materials that absorb and repel water, before filling the gaps with Seal-Boss foam as well, and another hydrophobic polyurethane grout to top it off flush against the walls surface. Finally, surface bonding material is smoothly applied to give the whole project a cosmetically appealing finish.   A simple, clean, and cost-effective solution was provided to meet all the homeowners needs for basement waterproofing and foundation repair within a reasonable timeframe.
Mysterious Basement Water Leaks in Canton, Mi Addressed with Drainage System
A familiar story in the area, is that of homeowners finding water getting into their basement but are unsure of the source. That's the exact situation this Canton, Mi homeowner found herself in, as water would pool around the edges of her unfinished poured concrete basement. It was happening frequently enough to heavily damage and stain her walls, too! It was clear if she ever intended to do anything at all with her basement in the future, she'd first need to handle her basement waterproofing needs. She needed to find a basement waterproofing contractor near Canton, Mi, that could help her with a customized solution. To that end, her coworker referred her to HomeSpec Basementfix.                       In turn, we sent out representative Mark Buhr, to discuss her situation and related needs. Mark conducted a thorough investigation of the property to help determine what solution set would fit this homeowner the best. Due to the nature of the prolonged water damage on the walls and the way the water pooled at the edges, he proposed wall paneling and a proper drainage system to be installed.                                               In order to adhere a custom drainage system to the perimeter of the basement, the WaterGuard piping system was selected and installed by our crew. WaterGuard is a French drain designed to be installed below the floor slab, resting on top of the foundation footing. This keeps the drainage system out of the "mud zone", where drains can clog. The water would collect and drain into a new discharge leading to an existing basin. While the WaterGuard was being installed, our crew was extra careful to temporarily move the laundry tub and hot water tank to be reinstalled once the job was done. In front of the drainage system, we installed our BightWall system. BrightWall is a rigid plastic sheeting that's attached to your basement wall by drilled-in plastic fasteners and provides a fully waterproof solution and creates a vapor barrier on the basement walls to block out water vapor and humidity, ensuring the homeowner won't have to worry about mold growth or rot. BrightWall provides a lively, clean look to the space while it also directs water seepage into the perimeter drain. Finally, the laundry tub and hot water tank were reinstalled, and the entire worksite was cleaned up, so the finished job looked even cleaner than when we arrived.                                     This homeowner discovered that more complicated issues often require more personalized solutions, and HomeSpec is happy to deliver. As a happy bonus benefit, her job was even discounted due to her friend’s referral!
Homeowner in Canton, MI Couldn't Finish Remodeling Their Basement Until WaterGuard and CleanSpace Were Installed to Fix the Water Leaking Problems
A homeowner in Canton, MI was in the process of remodeling their basement so they could finally have a space where family and friends could hang out, however, as they started to tear down walls and flooring, they noticed cracks in the floors and walls that had previously gone unnoticed. The homeowner knew that they needed to get the cracks fixed before proceeding with the remodeling project. They did some research and found HomeSpec BasementFix, which specialized in basement waterproofing and foundation repair. They contacted us and soon a Project Manager was scheduled to come to their home and assess the situation. The Project Manager arrived and quickly got to work assessing the basement. He found that some of the cracks were leaking water, which was causing damage to the walls and floors. The Project Manager knew that he needed to act fast to prevent further damage. After a thorough inspection, the Project Manager proposed a solution that involved the installation of the WaterGuard Drainage System, UltraSump Sump Pump and CleanSpace System. The WaterGuard system would be installed around the perimeter of the basement, which would capture any water that seeped through the cracks and direct it to the UltraSump Sump Pump. The CleanSpace System would be installed on the walls and floors to prevent any moisture from getting through. The homeowner was relieved that there was a solution to their problem and agreed to move forward with the installation. Our crew arrived a few days later and got to work. They started by excavating around the perimeter of the basement to make room for the WaterGuard system. Then, they installed the WaterGuard pipe, which involved placing a special drainage channel along the perimeter of the basement. Next, the crew installed the UltraSump Sump Pump. This involved digging a hole in the basement floor and installing the pump. Finally, they connected the WaterGuard system to the pump, which would direct any water that collected in the drainage channel to the pump. Once the most tedious part of the installation was complete, the crew installed the CleanSpace System on the walls and floors. This involved sealing the walls and floors with a special vapor barrier that would prevent any moisture from getting through. The crew completed the installation in a day, and the homeowner was happy with the results. They could now proceed with their remodeling project, knowing that their basement was protected from any future water damage.
Family In Canton, MI has Full Waterproofing Solution Installed in the Basement of their New Home
A family in Canton, MI had just purchased thier dream home three years ago, complete with a basement made of poured concrete. The basement was partially finished with drywall, making it an ideal space for recreational activities and storage. However, their excitement was short lived as they noticed water seeping in where the floor met the wall, causing them to research extensively. They learned that the basement was vulnerable to water intrusion due to the presence of vertical cracks. Although the previous homeowners had repaired these cracks, they were still causing recurring leaks, leaving this family with the task of cleaning up the mess each time. They were also worried about the potential growth of mold and damage to their belongings, not to mention the integrity of the foundation itself. Once they had reached out to us, we scheduled a free inspection to assess the issue and provide a solution for this family.   After a thorough assessment of his basement, our Project Manager recommended a complete basement waterproofing solution, the WaterGuard Drainage System, the SuperSump Plus sump pump and High Pressure Urethane Crack injection to seal the cracks permanently.   The first line of defense was the WaterGuard, an interior drainage system that sits above the foundation footing. Our crew installed the WaterGuard along the perimeter of the basement floor, directly against the walls. This system would intercept any water trying to make its way inside and direct it towards the SuperSump Plus. To address the water accumulation, our crew installed the SuperSump Plus, a sump pump system designed to pump high volumes of water away from the foundation, ensuring its protection. This high-capacity pump was placed in a corner of the basement to collect water from the WaterGuard system and expel it away from the home through a discharge line. Finally, to tackle the vertical cracks that remained a concern, our crew used High-Pressure Urethane Crack Injection to seal them up for good. This involved injecting a specialized urethane material into the cracks at an incredibly high pressure. As the material seeped deep into the cracks, it formed a waterproof barrier, effectively sealing them and preventing any further water from leaking through into the basement.   Once all the products were installed, the family finally felt a sense of relief and reassurance. From that day on, they no longer worried about rain storms or snow melt causing water issues in the basement.
