Clawson, Mi Basement Gets Waterproofed and New Finished Walls w/ Flooring
A Clawson, Mi homeowner enjoyed his finished basement for quite some time as a recreational room; however, a few years ago his basement flooded under heavy rainstorms. The water damaged everything in its path before immediately draining down his floor drain. He was hoping this water damage situation would be a one-time thing; unfortunately, two years ago he walked into 4 inches of standing water in his basement. Fed up and stressed by the wet basement problem, the homeowner took down the walls and suspended ceilings, and painted the exposed joists black. They reached out to HomeSpec to explore their basement waterproofing options to prevent these problems in the future, as well as to ask if new finished walls could be provided to replace his hold ones.
Dave Kingsley was the representative of choice to assist the troubled homeowner. After hearing out the homeowner’s story, Dave set to work with a thorough inspection to determine the causes of the repeated water damage and leakage. Dave, had found a series of hairline basement cracks and fractures, and an improperly sealed basement window that were all likely causes of the water getting in.
Having tracked down some of the sources, Dave outlined a proposal for his crew to enact. They would trim out windows, replacing the ill fitted, slightly rotting ones with Everlast windows. These vinyl windows are entirely rot and rust-proof, ensuring a lifetime of use. They would also track down and fix a series of tiny cracks using FlexiSpan, a unique material that could move along with the natural movement of a wall to ensure a long-term
seal. Then the crew would build studded walls about 3' off the foundation walls so they could install the Basement To Beautiful wall panel system. Custom engineered, foam panels with integral studs that eliminate conventional fiberglass insulation. Electrical chases are built into the panels with vertical chases as well. Their inorganic material can never rot or grow mold, unlike conventional insulation and wood studs. They would replace the now ruined carpeting with ThermalDry Elite Plank Flooring, which is a modular faux wood plank that will not mold, rot or buckle and will even give a thermal break from the cold concrete slab, making the surface temperature up to 10 degrees warmer and more comfortable.
Finally, the crew helped relocate the water heater and other essentials back to where they belong and cleaned up to leave the place cleaner and nicer looking than when they arrived.
Ultimately, the homeowner had all water sources properly sealed, waterproofed his basement with stylish modern products, and a basement that now looked better than before the incidents began.
